Okay, this figure’s got some issues, but overall there’s a lot to like about the newest version of See Threepio (C-3PO) as well. So what are the issues? Well, collectors have pretty much come to expect the more movie-accurate shiny finish we’ve seen included with most previous Threepio releases. So it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t include it with this figure. However, it’s difficult for this finish to be successfully achieved and still maintain a super-articulated sculpt. And this is the first super-articulated Threepio figure we’ve received in the line (with the exception of the C-3PO figure released in the animated Clone Wars line back in 2008). So to receive a super-articulated Threepio figure, we had to lose the cool shiny finish. And this certainly makes this a very unique interpretation of our favorite golden protocol droid. The figure is painted in a really nice color doesn’t look bad at all; it’s just not what we’re used to and doesn’t look perfectly accurate. The figure seems to be pretty close to scale, though it may be a little too small. The most interesting feature of this Threepio figure is the removable plating pieces over its face, chest, back, and leg. Some say it ruined the figure, and it wasn’t necessary. I’ll agree that it was not necessary at all, and yes, it does look a little strange (particularly the chest piece). But it doesn’t ruin the figure, and this feature is certainly executed a hundred times better than the Attack of the Clones C-3PO figure with removable plating that was released back in 2002’s Saga Collection. One other cool thing about this figure is that the lower legs are easily removable to recreate the scene when Threepio was hopping around the Millennium Falcon as it escaped from Bespin at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. This review’s getting pretty lengthy so I’m going to wrap it up by saying that See Threepio (C-3PO) is worthy of your consideration, and if you decide to add it to your collection you may find that it’s money well spent. And I really think that Hasbro should give this super-articulated Threepio idea another try and just omit the removable pieces feature. The color they had to use for this figure really isn’t that bad and I think as cool as the shiny finish we all love may be, it’s an acceptable loss in order to receive a high quality super-articulated Threepio sculpt.
